Yala Lati Women’s Choir
Offering uplifting songs and transcendent harmonies
My performance group, Yala Lati, is a sisterhood of women’s voices rising to praise life and bless the world. We sing beautiful, uplifting songs and transcendent harmonies from various artists and traditions that invoke the power of love, unity among all people, and reverence for all life. We are devoted to empowering women’s voices, uplifting women’s lives, and building a strong, vibrant community here in Santa Cruz.
We’ve been offering two concerts a year since 2005 and almost every show has been sold out! We also love to sing at community events, marches, rallies, spiritual centers, and benefit concerts. Over the years we’ve offered our loving hearts and harmonious voices to the women at our local jail, and have given thousands of dollars raised through singing to local organizations that care for people and the planet. We feel especially blessed that we had the great honor of singing before the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers for their 7th council meeting in Sedona, Arizona.
The path to becoming a “Lati” has been a very mysterious and organic process over the years. Women often ask how they too can join the fold of this beautiful choir. My answer is this… Show up to my Sisters in Harmony circles with regularity and energetic commitment. Demonstrate to me over time that you have the ability to listen deeply, sing in tune and with a straight tone, blend your voice, hold your own part, and sing with both heart and precision. Lean in to the love, the community, the vulnerability, the authenticity, and the beauty and strength of the feminine. Deepen into the power of women’s voices rising in harmonious spirals of prayer. Let me know that you are interested.
